Principal, Hood Design Studio

Paul Peters is a storyteller of soils, a narrator of nature. As a Principal at Hood Design Studio, Paul has made it his life’s work to explore the tenuous, intricate relationships between cultures and their environments. Trained in the discipline of geography, he wields the tools of history, culture, and shifting ecologies with the deftness of a master craftsman, crafting landscapes that are not just spaces, but dialogues.

Since joining Hood Design in 2016, Paul has piloted several innovative, intricate, and thought-provoking projects. He’s woven the cultural and ecological histories of the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina into its hallowed ground; breathed new life into the historic Oakland Museum of California by introducing an outdoor performance space nestled within 4 acres of lush gardens; and at the 16-acre forested site of Discovery Place Nature in Charlotte, North Carolina, he’s crafted a tree canopy walk that unravels our multifaceted relationships with nature.
